This is a break glass moment. The "Let Politicians Lie Act" (SB22) is now law.
Here’s why this matters: most voters decide how to vote on ballot initiatives while they’re at the polls. That means the words on the ballot really matter — they help people understand what they’re voting on.
But SB22 makes it easier for the people in power to lie or twist the truth in that ballot language. Instead of fixing the confusion we’ve seen in past elections, this law makes it worse.
The law gives the Secretary of State way too much control over what’s written on the ballot. If they don’t like an initiative, they can make it sound confusing, misleading, or even totally false — and regular people like us won’t be able to do much about it.
Our system is supposed to have checks and balances to stop any one person from having too much power. This law goes against that. So what can we do?
We fight back. We organize. We speak up. If we want to protect our right to vote on real, honest issues, we have to take action together.
This is the moment. Let’s show up. Let’s push back. Let’s protect the citizen initiative in Missouri.
