We vow to overturn SB22, the "Let Politicians Lie Act"
Respect Missouri Voters Coalition vows to overturn SB22, the "Let Politicians Lie Act," with constitutional amendment banning biased ballot language
Coalition will place initiative on the November 3, 2026 ballot
Jefferson City, Mo—After the House passed SB22, the Respect Missouri Voters coalition released this statement from coalition Co-Founder Benjamin Singer:
"Tonight's vote makes clear that Missouri politicians will stop at nothing to strip away the people's power. The passage of SB22 shows the critical importance of the Respect Missouri Voters amendment to ban Missouri politicians from manipulating ballot language to mislead and trick voters. These attacks on the citizen initiative process are exactly what Respect MO Voters is fighting against, and will ban on November 3 next year."
The amendment will also ban politicians from interfering with initiatives that voters have passed and attacking citizens' ability to use the initiative process.
Next steps for the coalition include gathering 300,000 signatures from Missourians in order to place the initiative on the November 2026 state ballot. The amendment will ban politicians from interfering with initiatives that voters have already passed, attacking citizens’ ability to use the initiative process, and putting misleading language on ballots to manipulate voters. Already over 2400 Missourians have signed onto the movement.
Led by volunteers, this unique ballot initiative campaign gives voice to citizens of all political views. Boasting members who are Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Greens, and independents across Missouri, the movement has exploded, garnering state and national attention.
